Nobel Laureate David Baltimore to Speak at 35th Annual Calbiochem-UCSD Lectureship
 

Gibbstown, NJ - EMD Chemicals Inc. is proud to sponsor two lectures by Nobel Laureate Dr. David Baltimore at the University of California-San Diego (UCSD) on "Control of NF-kB" (Feb. 4, 2008) and "Engineering the Immune System" (Feb. 6, 2008).

Dr. Baltimore is currently the Robert A. Millikan Professor of Biology at the California Institute of Technology (CalTech). This lectureship continues a 35 year-long tradition of EMD Chemicals' Calbiochem® business partnering with UCSD to support the life science research community.

In 1975, Dr. David Baltimore and Howard Temin were awarded the Noble Prize in Medicine jointly with Renato Dulbecco for discovery of reverse transcriptase, an enzyme critical to retroviruses such as HIV. He is currently serving as president of AAAS and as co-chairman of the National Academy Committee on Scientific Communication and National Security. Authoring over 600 peer-reviewed articles to date, Dr. Baltimore's recent interests include control of inflammatory responses and the use of gene therapy to treat HIV and cancer.

Both lectures will begin at 4 P.M. in the Health Sciences Auditorium of the Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences at UCSD, San Diego, CA.
