Although apoptosis is a normal cellular process, its study requires a more controlled experimental process. This can be accomplished by using a variety of agents that force cells to undergo apoptosis either by stimulating cell surface receptors or activation of the mitochondrial apoptotic pathway. The following table provides examples of more commonly used agents for inducing apoptosis.
