Other Inhibitors: Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme (ACE) Inhibitors

The renin-angiotensin system plays an important role in electrolyte balance and fluid regulation. ACE inhibitors have become important clinical tools in the management of hypertension. They block the activation of the renin-aldosterone system, thereby reducing peripheral vascular resistance. ACE inhibitors also improve myocardial oxygen consumption and cardiac output and moderate left ventricular and vascular hypertrophy.
